KCI Partners with Christians Against Poverty

King's Church International has signed an agreement with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), a national debt counselling charity, to offer help locally to people struggling with debt.

The announcement made the front page of the Windsor Express on the 18th November.

KCI will work with All Saints Church in Dedworth Road to open a local CAP Debt Centre which will serve the residents of Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead. Nigel Williams from KCI is overseeing the project with the support and help of Reverend Louise Brown.

CAP has a network of 190 centres based in local churches and offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service.

Nigel notes that an increasing number of people in the town are not eating or sleeping properly because of money worries, ‘I'm talking about people who are under real stress, bailiffs at their door, facing threats. But everyone has some income, however small. We can help in nine cases out of ten.'

With a team of volunteers, Nigel expects the local office will be able to help more than 40 families in its first year.

Senior Pastor of KCI, Wes Richards, said ‘the currnet economic situation is very difficult for many people and we want to do what we can, as a local church, to help people who find they are struggling.'

CAP began in 1996 when John Kirkby, armed with a £10 donation, started to help people in his local community who were trapped in debt. The charity is now a fast-paced, growing organisation whose vision is to answer the national problem of debt in the UK by having at least one CAP centre operating in every major town and city by the year 2015.

CAP aims to show God's love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through debt counselling, advice and practical help. Its unique ‘hands on' approach empowers people to help themselves out of poverty and be released from the fear, oppression and worry generated by overwhelming debts.

The Windsor CAP Debt Centre will be officially opened on 22nd January 2012 during a special Sunday service.
