It’s a new day in Robertson
King’s Church International was launched in Robertson at a special church meeting in Robertson Primary School hall last Wednesday, March 25, 2009.
Filadelfia church changed its name following a six year link with King’s Church International which is based in Windsor, England near London.
During that time the Robertson church has become a multi-racial church and has started new ministries, including Kids Church (Kinderkerk) which regularly attracts 400 plus children from around the town.
The ‘marriage’ between the churches also follows the marriages of the two daughters, Wilana and Vasti, and the son, Drikus, of Gert and Lina Erasmus, the senior pastors of the Robertson congregation. They married the two sons and daughter of Wes Richards, the senior pastor of King’s Church International.
Pastor Gert said: ‘God linked us supernaturally with King’s Church International in England. They reached out to us and fulfilled a promise that God gave to us from Isaiah 60:10 that ‘foreigners would help build your walls.’ We had other similar scriptures about new wine and new wineskins.
Under the apostolic ministry of Pastor Wes Richards we have experienced many positive changes in our church. Through his input and the teams from King’s Church International that have regularly visited the congregation at their own expense, we have learnt much as a community about what it is to live as sons and daughters of God and as citizens of His kingdom.
We have experienced much of God’s love through King’s Church International and we realised that God wanted us to come together as one under the banner of a church name that recognises Christ as King over all people in all nations.
Pastor Wes, who was asked to become the ‘apostolic overseer’ of the Robertson congregation in 2004, said: ‘We have seen the hand of God at work in bringing not only three couples together but also the two congregations in South Africa and England.
‘Despite some of the regrettable histories of our nations, there has come a great bond of mutual love and fellowship between us through our common commitment to Christ and His kingdom.
‘The new King’s Church International congregation in Robertson will not be an Afrikaner congregation, although Afrikaans will be the main language spoken. But neither will this be an English congregation. It will be an international church where people of all colours and nationalities are welcome.
‘Our shared heart and vision is not to be a ‘religious’ church but a church that experiences the grace and mercy of God and reaches out with God’s love by word and action to people everywhere.’
On the first Sunday of King’s Church International in Robertson, South Africa 29th March 2009, the leadership team of twelve couples made the following declarations before the congregation. Pastor Wes Richards, the apostolic overseer of the church, asked if the congregation agreed with these declarations. The congregation then publicly stated that they did agree with these declarations.
- We declare that this church will not follow its own way but submit to the authority of Jesus Christ as King and worship Him wholeheartedly
- We declare that we are committed to being both hearers and doers of the Word of God, the Bible
