Summer Encounters
Men's Encounter60 men attended the Men's Encounter on Saturday 15th May at Baylis House, Slough. Guest speakers from Peru were father and son team, Pastors Peter and Sergio Hornung, the leaders of Agua Viva church in Peru.
Teaching for the first time in English, Pastor Sergio spoke on the ‘Power of an Encounter with a King,' speaking from the story of King David and Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9.
Pastor Peter spoke about the importance of being available for God. ‘He does not need anyone special - just available, he said. ‘His power working through us.' He spoke about his own career and how he left life in business to become a pastor in 1999. The church has grown from 5,000 people to 100,000 since then. ‘The King of King's needs you and you need to believe it.'
Pastor Sergio ended the day with a talk about the life of Jonah and the ‘importance of understanding your purpose in life.'
After lunch, guys stayed to watch the FA Cup Final together.
Women's Encounter
A week after the men's encounter day, 100 women attended the Re-Encounter at Baylis House, Slough on the 22nd May.
Melody Erasmus spoke on ‘The Power of an Encounter with God,' by looking at the life of Mephibosheth.
Margaret Beasley gave a talk about ‘What women want,' using a clip from the movie starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.
Wilana Richards spoke from Esther 4 about ‘Stepping into Your Destiny.' Queen Esther, renowned for her beauty, became the saviour of her people, the Jews, as she used the influence God had given her to avert a genocide. Wilana asked the ladies present, ‘who wants to be more than pretty face?!'
